AirBnB and the likes legalized in Japan. A bill allowing private citizens to rent out part of or whole homes for 180 days per year was approved on March 1, 2017. A compromise between promoting tourism and pleasing established companies in the hotel industry.

I guess in most cases it’ll be more economic to rent a room in someones house/apartment than to than to live at a hotel for prolonged times. You’ll miss out on the breakfast though.
Yeah, you may miss a great breakfast. But not all hotels have good breakfasts 🙂
