I am Extended \(^_^)/

A couple of weeks ago I went to the Immigration Office (about 15 minutes by bicycle from the office) the apply for an extension of my visa. It’s been almost 3 years that I have stayed in Tokyo this time, and I want to stay longer. So I went there, and waited… and waited… and waited some more (a total of 1.5 hours)... Until I could apply, which took about 2 minutes.

Yesterday I got a postcard telling me to come pick up the extension of my visa, or rather get an extension permit taped into my passport. So I went to the Immigration Office again. And another total of 1.5 hours waiting time, but this time I got a an extension of my visa along with a multiple re-entry permit. Both valid until July-August 2014. Though my passport needs renewal in June 2013.

I also signed another year contract with Sony Ericsson. So work wise I am good until August 2012. They were kind enough to give me a raise as well, a couple of man-yen 🙂 (see here and here for explanation) per month. Plus double that extra for the twice year bonuses.

The only thing remaining now is to contact the Naka-Meguro ward office to ask them to rewrite my alien registration card to reflect my extended visa. Maybe on Monday morning before flying to Taipei, or Friday morning when I am back from Taipei. I have to go within 2 weeks from today.

An Ordinary Day

How has an ordinary day changed for us since Friday’s earthquake? Actually, it goes on pretty much as it did pre-Friday’s earthquake with just a few exceptions.

  • We almost constantly watch TV news when a TV is available.
  • We save power, which means less light, less heat, shorter showers.
  • We have a bath tub full of water all the time – if power is cut we will not get water on the 12th floor.
  • We have bought 24×1.5 liter water for the same reason.
  • We have a box of reserve food such as pasta, canned tuna, and so on.
  • Increased awareness of keeping track of each other and that we always bring a cellular phone.
  • Intensified the blogging to keep family and friends up to date with what is happening – as you may have noticed 😉

In summary, the changes are not big and not really difficult. As all changes it takes some discipline and some extra thought but, as mentioned, it is not really difficult.

We also try to continue as usual. Visiting restaurants with the same frequency as usual. Go to the gym. Got to work.

Sometimes though it is not possible. Sony Ericsson where I work have, for instance, asked all employees to stay home from today until further notice. Konami Sports gym have limited opening hours, 10-18 instead of 10-22, most likely because of the irregular train schedules.

It also seems to have impacted restaurants so maybe many other people have changed their daily lives more than Chie and I have. Yesterday we visited Yasaka and while we were there they got 3 cancellations. Since Friday’s earthquake they have had 94 cancellations, counting in numbers of people. A quite big hit for a small restaurant like Yasaka.

LÃ¥nga Bryggan

After a long day’s meeting the whole group went to LÃ¥nga Bryggan for dinner. LÃ¥nga Bryggan means long jetty in Swedish and that was what it was. A 500 m long jetty, and then a platform with a house on it.

The food was quite good and we had a beautiful view of the Öresundsbron (the bridge between Sweden and Denmark). After the dinner we had all had a sauna and took a swim in the ocean in the full moon light. Very nice… But somewhat cold 🙂

Lemongrass

I am on a business trip to Lund. Actually I am staying at Clarion hotel in Malmö, but Sony Ericsson is located in Lund.

Yesterday was my first day ever in the Lund office. I got a Lund ID card and spent most of the time in meetings. At 5 pm when the last meeting was over I was one of the few left in the building :-O

Josef gave me a ride back to Malmö. The he suggested to have dinner with his fiance so we went home to their place. Then had an hours long walk along the harbor area and the Turning Torso. Our destination was the Mai Thai restaurant but it was closed.

Next stop was a Vietnamese restaurant, but it was also closed on Mondays. So we ended up at Lemongrass. An Asian fusion type of restaurant. The food was quite good and I enjoyed the company a lot. It was fun to meet Josef again and to finally meet his fiance.
