A Visit to Moloa Bay

One of Chie’s and my favorite beaches is Moloa Bay so today we took Robert there. Not only did Robert seem to like it too, but a one year old female Hawaiian Monk Seal seemed to like it too. She had arrived before we got there and was still there when we left.

We spent most of the day here, relaxing, swimming, reading and exploring the beach. At around 5 pm we packed our thing, said good bye to the seal and drove back to Poipu, after a brief stop at Safeway for grocery shopping.

Today was the second day at Kauai that we missed the sunset. We spent too much time on the beach (if that is something you can actually do) and too much time in the grocery store (yeah, that I can believe) so we were back home passed 6:30 pm. Though sunset aftermath was still quite beautiful.

Kauai here We Come…

We left the hotel at 8 am to catch a 10:07 am flight to Kauai. The flight is only 25 or so minutes so it never really gets boring.

In Kauai we got our bags, picked up our rental car and drove straight to our Poipu Plantation Resort. Here we were great by Chris, Javeed and Melissa – always so friendly and helpful. We could check into our room and we spent some time to unpack, at least enough to find our swimwear./p>

Having found our swimwear there was nothing stopping us from going to Kiahuna beach where we enjoyed the big waves and the sunshine. We spent most of the afternoon and early evening at the beach, playing in the waves and enjoying being back in Kauai… And Robert seemed to be enjoying being here for the first time too.

At 5:45 or so we all went grocery shopping. Dinner was late and almost directly after dinner Robert had to go to bed, jet lag. Chie and I went to bed shortly after that 🙂

Going to Hawaii

We departed Narita at 20 minutes past 9 pm, sitting comfortable on the second floor of a 747. Once we were allowed we declined our seats horizontally and slept. Well, except for the dinner and breakfast.

When we arrived at the Honolulu airport it was still morning the same day, al,ost time to go to the office… Except we were half a world away, and on vacation 🙂

Once the shuttle bus dropped us off at the hotel we thought we could check in quickly and meet Robert in his room, but that was not going to happen. The Waikiki Sand Villa had messed up our booking. The first message I got when asking about Robert and his room was that he never checked in :-O

It turned out that because I booked online for all 3 of us and then sent an email to the hotel to ask them to give us connecting room they had booked 4 rooms instead of 2. Finally, after having refused to pay for all four rooms (only after that had they cleared things up) we checked into our room.

Knocking on the door to Robert’s room was without result. Turned out they put him in another room and us in his room.

Once we met we got ready for shopping. Though neither Chie nor I found much to shop this time… What a disappointment 😉

Back at the hotel we had 5 minutes rest before Chie went on a shopping tour in Waikiki while Robert and I walk around. Finally ending up on the beach just in time for some rain and rainbow before the sun set.

After the sun set we slowly walked to Duke’s restaurant where we had a table for 3 reserved at 7:15 pm. The dinner was quite OK for being American, and the desert was humongous.

Back at the hotel Chie and I dropped dead in our beds, and I guess Robert did the same in his.

Ocean 6

This weekend we visited Ocean 6 again. We did much of the same thing we did the last time, which was doing as little as possible 🙂 The weather was cloudy but that was actually quite nice as the temperature quite comfortable, and I did not burn up this time even though I slept in the hammock.

To tell the truth, I was actually not that lazy. I helped out cutting some bamboo and mowing the lawn, at least part of it. In fact I cut bamboo until my skin broke on one of the fingers. I nice little flesh wound the size of a one yen coin. I also helped out painting in one of the 6 apartments. I have a painting specialty compared with many Japanese people, I can paint high up on walls without ladders 😉

When I was not working hard I joined Chie at the pool side relaxing, reading and sleeping. We sent most of the weekend like this, just taking a break from relaxing to have lunch and dinner. The meals were always prepared by the hosts while Chie and I always took care of the dishes afterwards.

In summary, a very relaxing weekend.

Visit to a Summer House

On Saturday morning we departed Tokyo together with Sachi-san and Toku-san for a 3 days weekend at their summer house. It is located a 1.5-2 hours drive north east of Tokyo, just passed Chiba. We had no clue about the summer house and was surprised when we finally arrived. A wooden wall with a small “Ocean 6” written in blue on a sign. It looked like a big boat house.

But walking through a small door in the wooden wall we found that inside it was a large building dressed in unpainted weatherbeaten wood. They had found the land 25 years ago and together with 6 friends built the summer house, or rather private summer resort. 6 units in one building with the same general layout but with totally different interior decoration.

First floor in all units was an open space kitchen dining living room area with a large window wall towards the large wooden deck with a pool and ocean view. The second floor was an open space with the same glass wall as downstairs giving the bedroom an ocean view. In the back on the room was a wall of wardrobes with one door not being a wardrobe but a door into a large bathroom behind the wardrobes, bright with a glass roof.

The summer house was like another world. Surrounded by the wall on the back and green bushy forest of various trees and bamboo. No other houses in site. No sound but the wind and the ocean. And about a billion dragonflies buzzing around all day long, like in a fairytale. It was easy to relax here.

When it was too hot after staying in the sun or helping out cutting down some bamboo we cooled off in the pool. Chie was a great pool manager, keeping the pool clean 🙂 But besides pooling, cutting bamboo and cleaning the pool there were plenty of time to do just nothing but relaxing as well.

During evenings we had dinner together, talking about all things and nothing at all. Just enjoying spending time.

The last day we went down to the beach. It was a long sandy beach… And really hot and humid. Very different from the summer house just a few hundred meters away. We spent some time there walking around looking for shells and other things that have washed up on the beach.

Monday night (national holiday) we had dinner before returning back to Tokyo. It was a very nice extended weekend 🙂
