Dinner with Ishihara-san

At 7:30 pm Chie and I joined Ishihara-san and a few of the people in her group for dinner. Basically it was the people from the latest flea market and trip to Tohoku. We ate, talked and had a fun time 🙂

After a Typhoon

Yesterday a typhoon passed Tokyo. At first it looked like ti was going north towards Korea/China after it had passed Okinawa. But once it reached Okinawa it turned almost 90 degrees and followed the coastline of Japan instead. And eventually it passed Tokyo.

Though they say it rained heavily in Tokyo I never saw any of it as we were in a workshop the whole day. But once I was on my way home I noticed it as it was very windy. After a short phone call to Chie I decided to not take the bike home. Second day in a row 🙁 Instead I walked to Gotanda where Chie picked me up by car. Her office had closed early so that people could get home before the typhoon hit Tokyo. But at Sony Ericsson we need to provide the world with cell-phones no matter the weather 😉

Passing through the Shinagawa it looked almost like after the earthquake in March. So many people waiting for the trains. Some people got home well passed midnight because of the delays.

Anyway, that was yesterday and today is today. They typhoon has passed. And the only damage it made to Tokyo is a few fallen trees. We were quite lucky here. In Ishinomaki where we went last weekend they were not so lucky. On the news we could see a lot of flooding 🙁

Without My Bike

Yesterday it was raining when I was going back home so I decided to take the train. In fact, I was a bit late so I got into a taxi 🙂

The worst part with not riding a bike home is that I need to get on the train in the morning. And then to get off the train in Shinagawa. And zig-zag through the crowd of people that are trying to escape the big station and head to their offices in the Shinagwa area.

Xperia ray

Lately I have been on quite a few business trips. So I have requested a work phone, which arrived today. A white Xperia ray. It is my first experience with Android and smartphone. Until now I have only had stupid phones

It is a bit early to say anything about Android, but I really like Xperia ray. The form factor is great for my needs – I use phones for calling and not so much for anything else. Xperia ray fits right into a shirt pocket or back pocket without being bulky. Which is just they way I like it 🙂

A Trip to Tohoku

We are back from a trip to the Tohoku area. Or more precisely to Ishinomaki (1, 4 and 5 in the picture below). We left on Saturday around midnight and drove throughout the night to arrive in Ishinomaki early in the morning. During the two days we stayed in the area we stopped at different places to drop off supplies that they needed to get started in their new temporary homes or to continue their lives in whatever was left of their own homes.

Our stops where the following:

  1. Ishinomaki (1) to drop of supplies at a temporary home and have breakfast.
  2. Fukukiura (2) to drop off supplies.
  3. Kobuchihama (3) to drop off supplies at a temporary home.
  4. Kobuchihama (3) to drop off supplies at a fisherman and his wife’s home.
  5. Kobuchihama (3) to drop off supplies at another temporary home.
  6. Kobuchihama (3) to watch the saving of a fishing boat.
  7. Kobuchihama (3) to check the new freezer.
  8. Kobuchihama (3) to drop off some furnitures at a beauty salon.
  9. Ishinomaki (4) to drop of supplies at various temporary homes.
  10. Ishinomaki harbor (5) to check one of the worst hit harbors in the Tohoku big earthquake.

Common denominator between all our stops was the friendly people that we met. They all welcomed us with big smiles and something to drink and/or eat. And always having a friendly word to us. It made it all so much easier 🙂
