Poipu

Rain clouds all around us. But not in sunny Poipu. We spent the day at Poipu beach. Chie had on her new Sweet bikini.

We had our snorkeling gear with us. Chie and I went out a few times. Taking some photos of colorful fishes.

We also saw a sea turtle. Floating in the water just five meters from where we were sitting.

At home I found out I had spent just a little bit too much time in the sun. My front side was quite red. Strange since I had used a waterproof SPF 30 all day long.

What to do? Lotion with aloe vera. But even better, aloe vera directly from the plant. They had a lot of aloe vera in the garden on Poipu Plantation. So I picked some and used it. Hopefully tomorrow it is better.

Oh, and we had crab & cream pasta with salad.

Secret Beach

In the morning the radar showed no rain at any place on the island. And satellite images showed almost no clouds. So we decided to go north. To Secret beach.

On our way there it… Started to rain 🙁 We almost decided to turn around. But the thing with Kauai is that it always rains here. But there is also almost always sunny somewhere on the island. Usually south and especially the west side.

But that is no good if you are on the north side. We parked the car and walked down to the beach. About 10 minutes walk. Once on the beach the sun was shining 🙂

The day here was hot. Really hot. So we got into the water even though the waves were quite big and there was a strong current.

One of those times when we were cooling of in the water I was standing with water up to my thighs… It sung like h**l on the back of my knee. I went out of the water but it continued to pain. Then we saw a bluish jellyfish (Portuguese Man o’ War) with about a 40 cm string that was the most probable cause of my pain. We watched if flush onto the sand and then I carried it away and hid it under a rock – my revenge >:-)

Jellyfish

Though the back of my knee and lower thigh pained me during the whole day, we had a nice day. Much relaxing. Lunch. Reading. Watching the sky. Doing nothing.

At home we had curry. And Tutu’s anniversary. Our favorite ice cream.

Poipu

Raining. So instead of going to the beach in the morning we went to Lihue. And did some serious shopping at Border’s book store.

Around noon we were back at Poipu Plantation and the sun was shining again. We went to the closest beach… Poipu Beach.

Chie at Poipu beach.

We stayed there until 6 pm. At that time the sun was still warm. But it was time to get home and prepare dinner.

At home we decided to take a walk before dinner. We walked back to Poipu beach. Stopping on the way to watch some turtles. At Brennecke’s we bought some beer for Chie.

Kiahuna

We woke up to another day of indecision. Where to go? So many beaches to choose from. But being lazy we went back to Kiahuna. And spent the day there. Reading. Talking. Playing in the water.

And watching another monk seal. This one was bigger. So my guess, it was older than 6 months.

In the evening we took a walk to Poipu beach again. Looked at some coco nuts. And watched the sunset.

Kawailoa

After 10 hours sleep we finally got out of bed. Or rather Chie got out of bed. I got out much, much earlier… After around 9 hours and 45 minutes. When Chie got up her coffee was made and most of the breakfast and today’s lunch.

We had discussed which beach to go to today. The choice was between Moloa Bay and Kawailoa Bay. We went to the reception to register since yesterday it was closed. Jay Nai was there again and he suggested we go to Maha’ulepu which is an area including three different beaches. Kawailoa is one of them.

That pretty much helped us make up our minds. We spent the day at Kawailoa Bay. A big sandy beach with a beautiful view.

At 5 pm we were the only people left at the beach. So we too decided to go back home.

Before making dinner we had a short walk to the Poipu beach. Looking at sea turtles eating in the water. Had a rest under a palm tree. Saw some pineapples in a palm tree, or maybe it is called pineapple tree.

Back home again we could watch the sunset before we had pasta puttanesca and salad for dinner. Yummy!
