Poipu Beach

As I already mentioned, I make the breakfast and prepare for our lunch on the beach every morning. I also make coffee for Chie to be ready just in time when she wakes up. I do this because I wake up earlier than Chie and because she makes our dinner in the evening.

Today, on our way to the car, we found a mango in the garden. Of course we have a lot of mango in the garden since there is a mango tree there but this morning we found a mango in the grass. We brought it to the office but they just said we could enjoy it our selfs. I guess they have had enough of mango for a lifetime, if that is possible. Tomorrow we will bring it to the beach, with some pineapple , salad, and sandwiches.

After putting the mango in the room we went to Poipu beach. We had a great time doing some snorkeling but mainly relaxing.

In the evening we made pizza at home. It was tasty since we added some extra anchovy, tomato and garlic.

Hideway Beach

Early bird today. Went out running in the morning. It was nice and not too hot in the morning sun. Then I prepared our lunch for the beach, as I do every morning. That is my duty. As is making coffee for Chie when she wakes up.

After getting ready we went to pick up some swim wear for Chie that she put away the night before. Then it was off for North shore and Hideway beach. A small beach next to the Princeville hotel. Beautiful. Great snorkeling. But today we did not enter the water. The weather was too bad. We had our lunch there and then we relaxed for a while before we packed our things and went back to the car just in time before it started to rain.

Instead we went to Kiahuna. In the south. We stayed there until just after 5 pm. And then we went to Lappert’s again. Almost every day after beach we end up here. To have an ice cream. Today too they were out of chocolate fudge, but they had Tutu’s anniversary. So Tutu’s it was. Yummy.

Then home for dinner. Tonight it was herb chicken and salad. Yummy.

Poipu Beach

Poipu beach was our destination today because we wanted to snorkel. The waves were quite big but we still managed to snorkel. It was fun but hard work for me because I have no fins. Have to buy a new pair any day now.

At Poipu beach they had some junior lifeguard training. Which they mixed with games and surfing. It was fun to watch for a while. Then I continued reading.

Anyway, it was very hot today and we had to go into the water again and again. Poor us. We swam along the beach a couple of times and then relaxed in the waves. It was fun.

After Poipu beach we went back to Lappert’s (I think it is called that) to get some yummy ice cream, again. Our aim was to have a chocolate fudge ice ream but it was sold out. So was Tutu’s anniversary. Instead we settled for coconut ice cream. It was quite OK too.

Because we really want to make sure to eat the ice cream we have it before dinner. Always. After dinner it might not be any room left in our stomachs. So better to have it before dinner. no difference today. After the ice cream we went home and had dinner. Anchovy, olive and garlic cream sauce pasta. With salad. Very tasty.

Dinner

Ohh, and we have mango at Poipu plantation where we are staying…

Larsen Beach

Same weather situation as yesterday. Rain south of Poipu and a big risk for Poipu area to get some rain as well. We drove north again. At Lydgate the weather seemed to be better but we decided to continue to Larsen beach.

Larsen beach

Arriving at Larsen beach the weather was quite OK. Clouds but blue sky out at sea. We were lucky to go here anyway because about 20 minutes after we arrived a Hawaiian monk seal crawled up on the beach about 30 meters away. We did not want to go near it since it is an endangered specie and besides probably wants to be left alone. I know I would if I was a monk seal on a beach.

Larsen beach is a beautiful and quite long stretch of sand. Our guide book says it is great snorkeling when the sea is calm. However, we have been here a few times now and the sea has never been calm. And swimming is not so good either.

So after a while we got bored and hot. We decided to go to Moloa’a beach again. Mainly because it is the closest beach and it is good for swimming and quite fun.

Chie at Moloa'a beach

At 4:30 pm we packed our things and drove back. Stopping in Lihue for some shopping at Macy’s. Then continue to Koloa for some groceries before returning home in Poipu where we had chicken curry with salad for dinner.

Moloa’a Beach

Checked the weather on the Internet this morning. Radar said it was raining out at the sea just south of Poipu. It seemed likely that also Poipu area would get some rain so we decided to go north.

We drove as far as Moloa’a beach. A nice beach a little bit more than halfway to the north shores from Poipu. Here it was sunny with some clouds, as it always seems to be in Kauai. We enjoyed the day reading and swimming. The swimming was almost as fun as Kiahuna, with some nice waves to play in.

In the afternoon I had a walk along the beach. All the way to the end. Well, it was just a 5 minutes stroll. Anyway, the beach turned from sand to stone at the end and I started to jump from stone to stone. Then I saw a pair of sea turtles in the waves. Eating, I guess.

At around 5 pm we decided to return. As we started to pack our things it started to rain. A quick shower that ended before we reached the car.

On our way back to Poipu we stopped in Lihue. I wanted to check some books and Chie took the chance to look at some new shoes. I found four books, one new Robert B Parker and one new Harlan Coben (two of my favorite authors). Chie found a new pair of shoes.

For dinner we BBQ kalbi (Korean ribs) and had salad. It was very tasty, as always. After dinner we had some time to relax before going to bed.
