Going to San Francisco

It felt like any other day when I was going to the office in the morning. Same old people in the train, I think. Same guard in the W building (Sony Ericsson’s office in Shinagawa). And same old desk to sit at. But at lunch I went to the Narita Express (NEX) in Shinagawa station. And went to Narita airport. By 1:30 Chie, Mash-san and I were seated and ready for our flight to San Francisco.

We arrived in San Francisco early the same morning. Sounds strange but San Francisco is quite a few hours behind Tokyo. So instead of laying in bed at home in Tokyo we picked up our rental car and drove to the Residence Inn in San Mateo. Rested for a while. And went to Stanford Shopping Center for a few hours shopping.

On our way home we passed an Oracle office building. They had designed it to look just like the database icons you find in for instance Visio. Just gigantic once in glass and steel.

At home Chie prepared a deliscious pasta dinner for me and Mash-san. But most for me… I am almost certain about it.

RNJ @ Yoshiman

After work I went to Yurakucho station with the JR Yamanote-sen. My destination was Yoshiman kushi-yaki (Japanese BBQ) restaurant in Ginza. It took a while to find it, it went left when I should have turned right and it took about 5 minutes to get to the restaurant.

Chie, Mash-san and Oide-san was already there. Mash-san and Oide-san had been there since 5 pm but Chie arrived around 6 pm and I turned up 6:15 pm. We had a lot of kushi-yaki and talked about the upcoming trip to San Francisco and Raiders game. Only two weeks away now. Before leaving we had two different types of rice as well, cooked the old way.

Mash-san joined Chie and me walking to the Yurakucho station where he got on a train to Tokyo station and on to Shizuoka. Chie and I continued to a book store where I bought two Jeffery Archer books. Before we went back home.

Body Combat

Chie and I decided to go to the gym to attend a class of Body Combat. First Chie attended an aerobics class while I did shoulder and arm weight exercises. Then we joined the Body Combat class together. One hour of punches, knees, and kicks. In a room full of people. In a Tokyo too hot and humid to do any kind of body exercises. I was so sweaty afterwords it felt like I was melting. But it was fun.

Raider Nation Japan

The whole evening last night after work and most of the day today Chie and I prepared for the Raider Nation Japan party. Cutting vegetables and other things so that it would be easier to cook during the party.

Mash-san was the first to arrive at around 1:30 pm. The rest popped in one by one after 2:15 pm. A total of 5 people, excluding Chie and me. We had a lot of different dishes. All of them deliscious. And talked about the upcoming football season. Will Raiders make a good year or just as poorly as last year? We also watched Super Bowl XV, from the good old Raiders time.

It was nice to see old friends again (Mash-san [upper left], Power-san [lower rigth], and Satoko-san [middle]), and to get to know new friends (Moonlight-san [lower second to left] and Kurohyo-san [upper right]) as well.

We Will Rock You & Shabu-shabu

Woke up just before 10 am. Just in time to watch the kickoff of the Raiders game. The last game home for this season. To make the pain short… They lost again. Since they were in the Super Bowl they played so bad. And for each season we always said “At least it can only go up from here”. Still, when the next season ended it was just to look at the standings to see that actually it could.

But this year it must be so… It cannot get any worse than this. Only two wins and last in the whole NFL. Defense plays well but offense have swept all the NFL records away… Most turnovers, worst in the red zone, only 17 TDs. Today NBC compared the number of TDs to that of singel individuals in some other teams… The worst part… Raiders lost this too. Any single thing you can think of in the offense, Raiders is the worst team. So this year it must be safe to say that at least it can only go up from here.

At 2 pm we had a much better experience. We were seated in front of a big scene in Shinjuku to watch the We Will Rock You show. This was the last show in Tokyo for this time. It was a great show. And it was fun to see that almost everyone had a magic light which they swung to the beat of the music. Of course, almost everyone includes Chie and me.

Then we took a train home and had shabu-shabu for dinner. It was very tasty and I had too much to eat. It is quite hard to stop eating when it tastes so good.
