A Day at the Kawailoa Bay

Chie and I are quite good at doing nothing. We are so good at it we can do it in the sleep. We started last night, and continued throughout the day today.

The beach at Kowailoa bay is quite a nice place do nothing at. So after doing nothing at home we went to Kowailoa bay. Running our rented cheap Hyundai (no power lock, mechanical window controls, mechanical back mirror controls, etc.) very slowly on the bumpy dirt road.

At around 5 pm it was finally time to do something. We drove back home and then went to the grocery store. Buying groceries for dinner, which tonight was beef steak and salad 😛

Hello Kauai

At 11:30 am we touched down on Lihue airport in Kauai. Got our bags. Got a rental car. Drove to sunny Poipu. And… We were home 🙂

At least that was how it felt. The great feeling of turning right after a steep, short down hill ride. And the ocean with Poipu beach opens up before you.

Poipu Plantation was as friendly as ever when we checked in. This is our 6th (?) year here and they start to get to know us now.

Our tradition is to go to Kiahuna beach the first day, after a short stop at Brennecke’s where bought lunch sandwich.

The whole afternoon we spent in the sand at Kiahuna. The group of 3 couples that we see every year we are here… Were here again. They sit in a circle at the beach and talk and drink all day long. We lay down a while away as to not disturb them by turning the pages in our books too loudly 😉

When the waves had grown to the size of Tokyo Tower we went into the ocean. Freezingly cold at first, but actually really nice after the first chock.

At 5 pm it got cloudy and started to rain a bit so we packed out things and went grocery shopping. In the evening we had tomato sauce pasta and salad for dinner. At home. Yummy!

Going Home

All good things comes to an end. Today we left Kauaii and went back home to Tokyo via Honolulu. We had to leave Poipu Plantation already around 5 am. No breakfast. But we had prepared Sandwiches the night before that we had at the airport.

After a 30 minutes flight we were back in Honolulu. We could see a lot of Japanese people. You could main recognize them by the mask they were wearing. Hmm, I think the news about swine flu have reached the Japanese news sites.

Once back at Narita (Japan) it was obvious that swine flu was taken seriously by the Japanese authorities. We could see people prepared to take care of sick people. They were dressed in blue clothes from top to toe. Wearing masks and googles.

The only thing for us to do was to go home. And have some BBQ pork at Yasaka for dinner.

Oh, I almost forgot… The Northwest/Delta crew on our flight… One of the best crews ever. Not only were they polite and friendly the whole flight, but Chie and I also got a bottle of Champagne to bring with us home 🙂

Last Day at Kiahuna

Our last day at Kauai. We spent it at out favorite beach, Kiahuna. Before going there we stopped at the Poipu Village Center to buy sunscreen. We run out yesterday. We manage to buy that and some other things from Life is Good.

At Kiahuna had non-stop fun in the water. It has since we arrived gotten warmer and warmer for each day. Today was 29 degrees (Celsius) and quite warm in the water too.

When we were not in the water we talked some and read a lot. And Chie had a Mai Tai. Along with the Mai Tai she also got a free of charge Pina Colada – I think the guy in the bar likes her 😉

After 5 pm we left the beach and headed for Koloa Town. First stop was to fill up the gas in the car. Then to buy some dinner. Same place as yesterday, but this time we bought fish. So so.

Moloa Bay

We decided to try the Lydgate park beach today. But once we got there it was, as always, a lot of kids and a lot of people. So we changed our mind and continued north for about20-30 more minutes. And stopped at the Moloa bay again.

It was a beautiful day with mainly blue sky until late afternoon when it got cloudy. We had prepared edamame (soy beans) and egg sandwich for lunch.

Around 5 pm we left Moloa bay and headed for Wal Mart in Lihue. To buy Hawaiian chocolate and Macadamia nuts. And Kona coffee.

We continued home after that. Stopping only to buy sashimi and teri steak for dinner.
