Back at Kiahuna

Today we went back to the Kiahuna beach. It is one of our favorite beaches in Kauai.

We read, played in the waves, and relaxed. Enjoying the sun, the breeze and the palm trees.

At 4:45 pm we returned home after a short stop for grocery shopping. Dinner tonight was grilled salmon and salad.

Moloa Bay

One of our favorite beaches is the Moloa bay. It’s a long horse shoe shaped beach along a small bay on the east-north-east coast. The beach is in total about 500 meters of sand and there are usually very few people there. Today it was actually a bit crowded as there were about 20 people there… And a dog.

The dog had a large stick that she wanted thrown into the water. At some point Chie was closest to her so she wagged her tail and looked so playful and pleading like just a dog can look. Chie succumb to her pleading and threw the stick into the water. But not far enough… Before Chie was back in her chair the dog was back at her side ready to play again.

At 5:30 pm we left the beach, did some grocery shopping, and went home. We had pasta with anchovy, olive cream sauce, and salad. Yummy.

Kauai

Woke up and went almost at once to the airport for the 30 minutes flight to Kauai. In Kauai we got our rental car and drove to sunny Poipu where we checked in at our usual room.

After a quick unpacking we drove to the Kiahuna beach and placed ourselves under a palm tree. The group of 6 Americans that we usually see here were here this year too. Same chairs. Same umbrella drinks. Same sun protected white noses. They just look older, in difference from Chie and I 😉

It was great being back at Kauai. Sand was warm. Weather was great. Water looked beautiful. My book was good. Company was great 🙂

We left the beach around 5:30 pm and did some grocery shopping before heading back home. At home we cooked and ate Japanese curry and salad. Yummy.

By 9:30 I was in bed sleeping (( _ _ ))..zzzZZ

May Day by the Bay

A really unusual day on Kauai. Cloudy all over. The whole day. So we did not get to the beach. Instead we went to Hanelei for the May Day by the Bay festival.

When we arrived in Hanelei we could not locate the festival. We went to the right place but there were just no people there. Maybe because it basically poured down every 15 minutes or so. Or maybe we were at the wrong place?

It did not matter much since both Chie and I had a fun time walking around in Hanelei. Trying to hide from the rain every 15 minutes or so 😉

After a while we returned to Poipu, just stopping briefly in Koloa town to fill up the car. And at the Kukul’ula shopping village. We checked the Living Food Market where I found Kauai made chocolate for the amazing prize of $10 per bar 😯 More than Chie’s flip-flops that she bought in the surf shop next door.

Before returning home we had a Mai Tai and a Lemonade, along with taco chips and ‘home made’ salsas at a bar. The salsa was delicious.

At home we prepared pizza. Frozen. But we add fresh tomatoes, olives, capers, leftover pasta sauce and parmesan cheese. And some fresh basil that we got from Poipu Plantation Resort (they usually give away things they grow in the garden, like the basil, mango, and oranges). The basil was really tasty and you can see it between the bottles in the picture below.

After the dinner we turned on the TV and accidentally ended up on a channel with a travel program about Sweden. We saw some glimpses on Wasa (the biggest engineering failure Sweden has ever seen except maybe for the Hallandsåsen). Then some glimses of Skansen before the show ended with some guy sitting on a wooden pier in front of some typical red Swedish fisherman huts.

Now we have also almost finished packing all our things. Tomorrow we are returning to Tokyo. But we will be back in Kauai next year again, if not earlier 🙂

Come Rain or Come Shine

The last few days have been rainy in the morning. Today was no difference. Once it stopped we went to Poipu beach.

At the Poipu beach it was hot. We read. Took a swim. And then it started pouring down again 🙂

Back to the car. Back home. It had stopped raining. But the sky was still dark grey over Poipu beach just a few hundred meters away.

We spent most of the rest of the afternoon in the garden. Reading and, well, sleeping.

Late afternoon we wanted to cool off. So we again went to Poipu beach. No rain this time. We swam a few hundred meters in the ocean. Enjoying the waves. Read in the sun. Slept a bit. When it was time to leave it started to rain again… Or maybe it was the other way around 😉
