Moloa Bay

Started the day with a 45 minutes run along the coast line from Poipu towards Gillin’s beach. It’s the second time I did this during this vacation and it was as beautiful a run as the first time.

Instead of having breakfast at home we went to Lihue and had ox tail soup and pineapple pancakes at Tip Top Cafe at the Akahi street. Yummy!

Then we continued our ride north and arrived at the Moloa bay around 30 minutes later. Moloa bay is a beautiful bay with blue green water and green hills. And, surprisingly, not so many people.

On our way home we stopped at Kojima grocery store to buy kalbi for BBQ this night.

At home we prepared everything for dinner. I went to the grill to do the BBQ kalbi. But the gas was out so we had to make an emergency leftover dinner. Chie had curry and I had pasta pepperonchino. Although not planned it was still quite tasty.

After dinner Chie and I went into the garden and picked some aloe. We cut the leaf (or what you call it) and put the juice on the sun burn. It is soothing and speeds up the recovery.

Kawailoa & Kiahuna

We had a sleep-in today and was a little bit lazy getting going. As a result we were not at the Kawailoa bay until lunch time. I was in the shadow most of the time but Chie enjoyed the sun.

Chie at Kawailoa bay

We stayed at the Kawailoa bay until around 3 pm. Then we left and went to Kiahuna instead. We needed a bathroom and Chie wanted to enjoy the big waves at Kiahuna. And she got a Mai Tai too.

At just before 6 pm we left Kiahuna and went grocery shopping. We had longed for Japanese food for a few days now so we found sashimi which we bought. And at home we enjoyed it as a starter.

Poipu

Rain clouds all around us. But not in sunny Poipu. We spent the day at Poipu beach. Chie had on her new Sweet bikini.

We had our snorkeling gear with us. Chie and I went out a few times. Taking some photos of colorful fishes.

We also saw a sea turtle. Floating in the water just five meters from where we were sitting.

At home I found out I had spent just a little bit too much time in the sun. My front side was quite red. Strange since I had used a waterproof SPF 30 all day long.

What to do? Lotion with aloe vera. But even better, aloe vera directly from the plant. They had a lot of aloe vera in the garden on Poipu Plantation. So I picked some and used it. Hopefully tomorrow it is better.

Oh, and we had crab & cream pasta with salad.

Secret Beach

In the morning the radar showed no rain at any place on the island. And satellite images showed almost no clouds. So we decided to go north. To Secret beach.

On our way there it… Started to rain 🙁 We almost decided to turn around. But the thing with Kauai is that it always rains here. But there is also almost always sunny somewhere on the island. Usually south and especially the west side.

But that is no good if you are on the north side. We parked the car and walked down to the beach. About 10 minutes walk. Once on the beach the sun was shining 🙂

Chie at Secret beach Lighthouse

The day here was hot. Really hot. So we got into the water even though the waves were quite big and there was a strong current.

One of those times when we were cooling of in the water I was standing with water up to my thighs… It sung like h**l on the back of my knee. I went out of the water but it continued to pain. Then we saw a bluish jellyfish (Portuguese Man o’ War) with about a 40 cm string that was the most probable cause of my pain. We watched if flush onto the sand and then I carried it away and hid it under a rock – my revenge >:-)

Jellyfish

Though the back of my knee and lower thigh pained me during the whole day, we had a nice day. Much relaxing. Lunch. Reading. Watching the sky. Doing nothing.

At home we had curry. And Tutu’s anniversary. Our favorite ice cream.

Poipu

Raining. So instead of going to the beach in the morning we went to Lihue. And did some serious shopping at Border’s book store.

Around noon we were back at Poipu Plantation and the sun was shining again. We went to the closest beach… Poipu Beach.

Chie at Poipu beach.

We stayed there until 6 pm. At that time the sun was still warm. But it was time to get home and prepare dinner.

Lizzard Sea turtle head

At home we decided to take a walk before dinner. We walked back to Poipu beach. Stopping on the way to watch some turtles. At Brennecke’s we bought some beer for Chie.
