We have a gecko visiting us 🙂

We had a talk with Jay-Nyh at Poipu Plantation about what beach we should go to today, and he suggested the Lawai beach. The only problem was that the beach is totally isolated by private property. In this case the National Botanic Garden, where recorded part of Jurasic Park.
Jay explained how to get there via a small path used by locals to go fishing. Then it was jumping across some stones and “you’ll be there in 10-12 minutes”. So of course we wanted to try.
We climbed down to the shore from the dirt road where we parked our car. Then climbed rocks, and rocks and then some more before we ended up in a forest with 15-20 cm pine needles on the gowned making up a brownish soft “floor”. Then we found a dirt road and got to a place with a sign “Danger – Keep Out”, and it seemed the only way to the beach.
So we gave up. Trespassing is no fun in US 🙁 We assumed that the dirt road we were on was the same as where we parked our car. So we walked, and… Just around the bend and we were back at our car. Well, at least we got 20 minutes of exercise climbing the rocks, though the dirt road took only 2 minutes, tops.
We decided to go to the Salt Ponds Beach instead. But first we stopped at one of the Kouchi signs that we have seen all over Kauai. Probably a welcome back Chie Kouchi sign we thought the first time we saw it. But we were out of luck today… “Ron Kouchi for senate” was more like, but quite fun anyway 🙂
As we were discussing if we should steal a sign to bring back to Japan we arrived at the Salt Ponds Beach. A quite nice beach with calm water on the west shoos of Kauai, just past Port Allen. We enjoyed most of the day here on the part of the beach where the locals seemed to hang.
In the late afternoon we felt the urge for some bigger waves than was provided at the Salt Pond Beach. So we went back to the Poipu area and Kiahuna beach. The surf was great and we spent a lot of the time in the water floating back and forth with the waves.
Around 6 pm we packed our things and went to Big Save for some grocery shopping before returning home. Tonight was crab and tomato cream sauce pasta with salad. Yummy.
Woke up early today because it was mid-week change of towels for us. So we got out of the room early and headed north for the Moloa Bay.
We spent most of the day at the Moloa Bay. Almost Alone. There were two families from, most likely, Russia but they returned to wherever they came from just after lunch time.
Then we were joined by a mother and her daughter and their dog. The dog did not like that the mother put all her attention on her daughter. It picked up a big stick and dropped it next to the mother and barked until she threw it 🙂
Moloa Bay is a great place to relax and to swim. Beautiful place and always almost no people at all on a few hundred meters of sandy beach.
On our way home stopped by at Safeway to buy groceries and at a Korean restaurant to buy kalbi, which we grilled when we got home. Yummy.
As usual in the morning Chie is feeding her favorite bird Elisabeth. She has been visiting us at Poipu Plantation for the last few years. Always coming when we wake up and when we get back after a day at the beach.
This morning Elisabeth was there though it was raining. So we stayed at home and took the opportunity to watch some football, it’s Sunday after all 🙂
Once the weather got better we went to the Kiahuna beach. And went to the hotel nearby, or rather to it’s bar. To watch the end of the Patriots at Jets game, and more specifically watch the results from the Rams at Raiders game. Raiders won and that made our day… And the sun, and the waves and Kiahuna beach contributed as well 😎
Around 5 pm, or just, past we packed up. And once we got into the car it started to rain. In Kauai it is always raining somewhere, but there is usually always sunny somewhere as well. And the weather can change quite suddenly.
At home we prepared dinner. Tonight it was pasta with bacon tomato sauce and salad. Yummy!
The day started with heavy rain, even here in the usual so sonny Poipu. We took the opportunity to go to Lihue for some shopping.
At around 2 pm the sun was back 😎 And we went to Poipu beach to have lunch, and do some swimming in the ocean.
We stayed at the beach until 6 pm. It is amazing how pleasantly warm the sun is at 6 pm. Just perfect. And all colors start to glow.
