Delta is using Linux

On our way home we had upgraded our ticket to business class using our milage. Though it was not flat beds it was still pretty good… And it was on the second floor of a 747. The only fun thing that happened during the 9 hours flight was that my monitor stopped working with the message “[…] seat is rebooting[…]” and then it rebooted. The fun thing with this was, as you can see in the below picture, that Delta (well, maybe Boeing) is running Linux. Phew… I would have been worried if I had seen Windows 7 reboot when I know there is about 10000 meters drop to the ground 😉

The more boring part of the trip was that we departed Kauai 8:29 am and had a 4 hours stop over in Honolulu, of which we spent most of the time in the Delta lounge. Then I bought a Starbucks tea and brought it onboard. We slept a while then watched a lot of movies before landing in a rainy Tokyo. Got on the Airport Limousine Bus from Narita to Shinagawa Prince hotel and a taxi from there to home. Unpacked most of the things and then we had dinner at Yasaka. Shower. Bed. Sleep.

Last Day

Today was the last day in Kauai for this time. Time flies when you have a good time. It feels like we just arrived though when you think about it then it was quite a long time sine we went to Takonoki.

We spent the day at Kiahuna beach today. In the afternoon the wave got big. Fun, fun, fun 🙂

It was the last day but it was also the first day we did not bring our own lunch to the beach. We had hamburger and Caesar salad at the Sheraton beach/pool bar.

At 5 pm we went to fill up gas as we have to return the rental car tomorrow as well. Then we went home and packed. Finishing the last evening with showers and pizza dinner.

Bye bye Kauai, for this time.

Poipu Beach & Tea House

Today we had a plan to go north, maybe to Secret Beach. But we got up late and then we got stuck talking to the owners of Poipu Plantation and we ended up going to Poipu beach instead.

We spent the day there doing not much until about 2:30 pm when we got drenched. The tide had started to rise and suddenly a big wave reach all the way and beyond where we were sitting. Towels, bags, everything got drenched.

We refused to move so every once in a while we got drenched. But now only our butts, which was kind of nice as it was quite hot.

In the evening we had a quick shower at home before we went to Hanamaulu Restaurant Tea House. They served Japanese food which was quite OK.

Super Full Moon

It was super full moon in Hawaii tonight – 12% larger and some 30% brighter than usual. Chie and I got in our car and drove to Polihale at 8 pm.

We arrived just past 9 pm and just in time to see the moon rise over the mountains. It was beautiful! The sand shone in a silvery tone, the ocean crushing in, the stars above – even some shooting stars.

There were many people on the beach, mostly locals judging from their cars… And the way they were howling at moon rising over the mountains 😉

We spent an hour or so moon bathing on the beach before we decided to return back home. When we passed the couple closest to us on our way back to the car we heard some moaning from under a pile of blankets… Probably a victim of some werewolf is my guess 😉

Farmer’s Market & Kiahuna Beach

In the morning we went to the Kauai Community College where they had a farmer’s market. Chie wanted to buy some coffee. We also ended up buying some Kauai made Eco-bags.

Afterwards we rewarded ourselves with a day at the Kiahuna beach. The surf was quite big in the afternoon so it was really fun playing in the water 🙂

Before returning home we had a Mai Tai and a strawberry smoothie at the pool bar of Sheraton next to the beach.
